The Ocean Depths
Imagine being out in the middle of the ocean, floating on an inner tube. The heavens are stretched out above you and the expanse is beyond your ability to comprehend.
Underneath you, there is a depth that is mysterious, risky and nearly impossible to reach. It is a place that should bring fear, yet you feel at peace and ready to simply float, letting the water take you where it will. You are completely alone, but you are with God and you do not feel alone. You long to know the depth of this ocean and you simply wait on Him to take you there.
This is the deep place in Christ. It is a place of mystery, not really hidden, but secret – obscured from the surface – too profound to touch from the edge where only your feet get wet. The risk of diving in is great. Very few dive to this depth because of the risk. It is a place that only a few will dare to go because they believe that even though it is not impossible to reach, it will take hard work, commitment, and tenacity. Yet, it is as simple as floating on that inner tube in the middle of the ocean and trusting that the Lord will take you to that secret place.
Now imagine you are not alone, but others have joined you in this journey. Now there are many inner tubes floating around you in that same deep and wide that will introduce them to the very depth of God’s heart. Imagine further the awakening that will happen in others as they begin to search out the depths of Christ. Oh, what an explosion of the majesty of God that will erupt from the deep!
This picture came to one of the ladies who prayed this morning – and her prayerful description was much more eloquent. God gave her a picture of the secret place in Him. She says it’s her cartoon brain that thinks so much in pictures. I say God used her to broaden my vision – to open my spiritual eyes to what He is doing as we pray for a deeper relationship with Him. And as we dive deeper into the heart of God, our hearts are filled with the abundance of His love.
What about you? Are you ready to explore the depths of God’s heart? I cannot tell you what you will find there. In some ways it will be different because we are all in different places in our walk. But in other ways it will be the same – an unprecedented awakening that will reveal the majesty and glory of God.
“For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being. So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have the strength to comprehend with all the Saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:14-19
